Executive Education
Strategy in a complex environment
My executive teaching brings together research, practical frameworks and tailored inquiry to help participants step back from familiar problems, reconsider how those problems are framed, and re-examine the choices available to them.
Questions executives are trying to answer
For executives, strategic decision-making is rarely about choosing from a set of ready-made answers. It is about figuring out which questions matter, which perspectives are worth challenging, and what the organization really needs in order to succeed in the present and thrive in the future. My work with executives and organizations spans four primary areas.
Corporate Strategy & Growth
Where should the organization compete, and how should it grow? We examine questions of corporate strategy, growth, diversification and M&A—including when an acquisition creates value, when organic growth makes more sense, and how a corporate parent can create value without simply adding complexity. I also work with executives on the challenges of translating strategy into action.
Stakeholders, Government & Society
Who beyond customers and competitors are strategically significant actors? We examine how organizations identify and understand their stakeholders, navigate competing interests and expectations, and build relationships with governments and other actors outside the market. This includes questions of sustainability and the changing expectations placed on firms by society. We also consider the relationship in the other direction: how organizations’ strategic choices affect their stakeholders and the societies around them.
AI & Strategy
What does artificial intelligence change about the way organizations create value and compete? We examine how AI affects capabilities, competitive dynamics and business models, and where it may challenge assumptions embedded in existing strategies and drive organizational transformation.
Global Strategy & Geopolitics
How do differences across countries affect the strategic challenges an organization faces? We explore international expansion, institutional differences, geopolitical relationships and the ways changing global conditions can create opportunities, constraints and new sources of risk.
HOW I WORK
Inquiry as much as instruction
My approach to executive education is built around inquiry as much as instruction. I use questions to challenge established thinking, surface different perspectives and encourage participants to examine how they understand the strategic problems they face.
Cases, simulations, discussion and frameworks provide ways into those problems, but the goal is not simply to provide a set of answers. It is to help participants see familiar situations differently and test their thinking against alternative perspectives.
From ideas to context
The same strategic question can look very different from one organization or industry to another. I adapt my executive teaching to the context, drawing on relevant cases and research and, where appropriate, working with clients to connect the material to the strategic questions their executives face. I have worked with participants ranging from high-potential and mid-career managers to senior executives and C-suite leaders.
